PRIDE — Design Thesis

Since the 16th century, the Philippines has experienced a long struggle against colonialism. Through the years, Filipino people have developed a distorted way of defining their national pride and identity. We are enthralled by the perceptions of foreigners and the desire to be featured in international media has shaped the famous expression known as Pinoy/Filipino Pride.

My design thesis takes excerpts from online videos "reacting" to Filipino people, culture, food, and traditions to highlight the absurdity of consuming exaggerated Western opinions or perceptions. I also explore how Filipinos can be more active in shaping perceptions about our pride and country.
